Thanks for the pictures and videos we have added them to the site. Sorry about the side ways video, but its good. Some language is not suitable for all ages.

I have re-power the boat with a pair of New DF 140 Suzuki's.  Dependablity is very important to our client s and to me.  I have gone with the same power as before as these 140s have proven to be reliable.   I would of liked the 175 suzuki's but they are not a proven motor in our waters.

Port Renfrew Date's

I will not be offering a March season in 2008. Halibut trips start in April  2008. The Port Renfrew( Swiftsure Bank) fishery will start in the last two weeks of May.  To avoid disappointed reserve early. Port Renfrew offers a fishery that will give anglers stories to tell for years to come.
Get involved in this fishery, if you have gone to Alaska fishing try Port Renfrew for a new location. You will not be disappointed...

What we offer, Halibut fishing on Swiftsure, Plus other areas in and around Swiftsure.
King (Chinook) and Coho fishing also at Swiftsure Banks.
It is non-stop action on Swiftsure Banks for all fish!

Let us put a package together for your group.

Angela and I (John) are offering some great packages for next year. We have saved the clients some work. We have a house in Port Renfrew in which you have just for your party. Its not a B&B it is self catering. You bring your own food or better yet pig out on halibut and salmon plus crab freshly caught that day. The house has a BBQ, Crab cooker and of course a big pot for deep frying your halibut for fish and chips. After dinner grab a trout rod and head for the mouth of the San Juan river for some great Coastal cutthroat trout fishing. It's only a five minute walk. The house is also only five minute's away from the boat.

Things you need to bring, except if flying in then please talk to us for important info.

We do stress the need for two coolers for a group of 4 anglers, each cooler should be of at least 150 quarts.

The house has all the goodies, just bring your personnel stuff. We do supply some spices.  A camera is a must just even a throw away would be great. As for rain gear, I fished all season in Port Renfrew and never donned a rain jacket. I do have some rain gear on board so leave it at home. Less to pack the better.

Fishing packages: (Based on Four Anglers)
1 night accommodation and 1 day fishing $1200.00
2 nights accommodation and 2 days fishing $2400.00
3 nights accommodation and 3 days fishing $3600.00
4 nights accommodation and 4 days fishing $4800.00
All prices are in Canadian funds, a 5% GST tax will be added

These packages are based on availability and are for Deep sea offshore fishing in the area of the Swiftsure Banks.   Your accommodation for these packages will be at the Fisherman's Guesthouse while in Port Renfrew.

To make a reservation for this up coming season here is the toll free number 1-866-642-7393 lets talk fishing.  or click on the reservation's and ask anything you need to know  I can look after all your needs, give us a call.

My wife Tiffany and I just got back from an amazing trip to scenic Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island's west coast, fishing with Captain John Wells from Hind Sight Fishing Charters on his brand new fully equipped 26-foot Hourston Glasscraft fish catching machine!
We stayed at John's fisherman's guesthouse in Port Renfrew the night before our Charter trip. The accommodations in the three bedroom fully furnished house were very clean and comfortable and only five minutes to the boat.
We grilled up some steaks for dinner, watched a movie and went to bed early so we could meet our guide at 6:00 a.m. to head out for a day of fishing.

We met John at the boat, fired up the motors and headed out of the marina in search of halibut. We ran about 25 miles up the coast in calm seas. John put us on the spot and within 5 minutes, I had my first halibut on.

It was a nice 25 pounder! Tiff caught the next fish, followed by the biggest fish of the day, a heavy 55 pounder. My arms were sure burning after that one! We used short, stout rods loaded with braided line, spreader bars, 20 oz of lead and 6 inch spoons in green and white in less than 200 feet of water. John is a master at finding halibut. If we weren't getting bites within five minutes, he moved us to the next hole. We limited the boat within 45 minutes, picked up the gear and move closer to shore to target big Kings.

We started to troll for Kings at around 9:00 a.m. We used 7 inch Tomic plugs clipped to Scotty downrigger 180 feet down in 220 feet of water. The first pass over the spot yielded nothing, so John sensing the fish were a little further out, motored off shore to deeper water. Soon as we got the first pole down, it popped off the downrigger clip and reel started screaming. After a 10 minute battle, we netted our first salmon of the day. A real beauty at 22 pounds.

It was Tiffany's turn and on the next pass, she hooks up big. Tiff was grinning ear to ear and swearing like a sailor as she reeled in her prize.
She was rewarded with a 27 pounder. Way to go Tiff!
She hooks up again, this time with a nice hatchery Coho.
And yet again, I get out fished by my wife. Tiff sticks a nice 25 pounder posing for a pick with our Captain.
Next pass, just as we finished taking care of the Coho, my rod flies off the downrigger clip and buries to the water. John yells "fish on, fish on." We knew that it was a big fish, so John reels in the second rod so I can play and wear her out. The fish puts on a show and will not come to the net, but John won't stand for losing a fish so he climbs up on the gunwale and scopes her right into the boat.
She pegged the scale at a healthy 30 pounds.
We limited on big kings by noon and headed back to port for lunch, cold drinks and fish stories. The local pub fried some of our fresh halibut and chips and we ate and drank our fill of BC's finest and freshest fish with our new friends.

A picture says a thousand words.

This was an amazing trip we will never forget. Book a trip with Captain John Wells in Port Renfrew today! You will be glad you did.
